Indeed Titanic is one of the most famous ships to have set sail for the sea. The Titanic was a British passenger liner operated by the White Star Line. She set sail for her first voyage from Southampton, England to New york city, United States on April 10 1912 but over five days later on April 15 1912 it became her last when she hit an iceberg or did she?
One of the many theories on how the ship sank is offered in a documentary which suggests that a coal fire damaged the Titanic. It had been raging for three weeks before the ship set sail. It weakened the ship’s hull, which hastened the ship’s sinking when it collided with the iceberg.
In 2004 the Geological Society of America published an academic paper by engineer Robert H. Essenhigh which stated that the Titanic’s captain Edward Smith, who went down with the ship, was speeding to extinguish the fire as soon as possible.
The crew had to have seen the iceberg coming. Then why didn't they change their route?
This is because they didn't see it coming. Surely the ship had binoculars present but it was locked away in a storage compartment as the crew member who had the key to the compartment was transferred just days before the ship set sail and he took the key with him. The crew member later claimed that he forgot to hand it over.
But what if someone did warn the crew? A nearby ship the S.S Californian had radioed the Titanic’s radio operator Jack Philip that there was something in their way but for some reason, it was labelled a non-urgent message.
So for now we really don't know what caused the sinking of the "unsinkable" ship
