The Devil's Triangle

Updated: Aug 20, 2023

The Devil's Triangle, more popularly known as the Bermuda Triangle, is connected to the missing over 50 ships and 20 aircraft.

But what is this triangle all about?

It is a region in the North Atlantic, roughly triangularly bounded by Florida, Puerto Rico and Bermuda.

Most of the ships that have gone about the area or aircraft near its airspace have mysteriously vanished into thin air. And it seemed like no one could find the root cause of this peculiar happening.

To this date, there have been many theories about this topic. Many movies, short films and whatnot have also been created.

A question arises when did this triangle first make its way into the view of the public's eye?

It turns out that some of the first sightings were by Christopher Columbus and his crew.

When they were on a voyage across the Atlantic in 1492, he reported many sightings within the triangle such as a glowing object coming out of the water and shooting towards the sky. Although this could have been a light from a ship or even a UFO as believed by some people it did some speculations.

Another strange thing within this region is the disappearance of the Douglas DC-3.

It disappeared on the night of 28 December 1948, It was on a flight from Puerto Rico to Miami. The aircraft carried 29 passengers and 3 crew members. To this date, no one knows what could be the reason for this. This is just one of the many countless occurrences that have happened.

So what are some of the theories that have come up till now?

A lot of people have taken into account that it might be aliens. Well, we can't be surprised by this theory; wherever there is a conspiracy there will be some sci-fi.

An actually possible theory would be "rogue waves".

Rogue waves are waves that can reach up to (100 feet). These massive waves could destroy ships and aircraft without leaving any trace. Rogue waves occur when there is a storm in the direction opposite to the normal direction of the water. This causes an interaction which can ultimately for rogue waves.

Australian scientist Karl Kruszelnicki put forward the theory that there could be some below the ocean that is causing this mayhem.

He stated that "Besides the massive number of storms, is the fact that the ocean goes down to, not 5,000 feet – 30,000"

He explained that methane clathrate - methane trapped in ice - could bubble out which could cause a series of bubbles to show at the water surface. It is proven that with enough bubbles a density could decrease which in turn causes the ships to sink more.

But he also expressed that there is only a slim chance this is true.

So until there is enough evidence for a theory we will not know the true cause for this chaos.
